Market Art Fair

Schwarz Contemporary, DE

SCHWARZ CONTEMPORARY was founded in 2011 by Berlin based art historian and editor Anne Schwarz with a solo show by US-American artist Eddie Martinez.

The gallery showcases works by international artists and represents ten artists from Germany, Denmark, Finland, and the US, working across a wide range of media, including mainly painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture. The gallery’s exhibition program focuses on regularly changing solo shows of the represented artists and expands its program by collaborations with institutions and galleries from Berlin and abroad.

After 14 years at its current location in Berlin-Neukölln where the gallery actively participated in the newly emerging art scene, SCHWARZ CONTEMPORARY will relocate to a new space in Berlin-Mitte for a solo show by German photographer Johanna Jaeger in March 2025. The new premises in Berlin Charlottenburg will be inaugurated in April 2025.

This years presentation

Emily Gernild’s abstract yet organic interpretations of everyday scenes and objects invite introspection, transforming the familiar into evocative visual narratives. Her works enter into a dialogue with Aki Turunen’s fantastical and mythical creatures and sceneries, which explore shared human experiences through a blend of personal imagination and art historical references. Lisa Tiemann’s sculptures add another layer to this conversation. The pair formations of her series COUPLES investigate cohesion and tension, unity and individuality, creating works that are inconstant communication—whether between movements, materials, or artistic expressions. At our booth, this dialogue expands between formal languages: abstract and figurative painting as seen in Gernild and Turunen’s works, and the sculptural vocabulary of Tiemann.
